SCIENCE - UNIT 2: The Digestive System





DIGESTIVE SYSTEM GAME

DIGESTION

1. First, teeth crush food when you chew it. The salivary glands produce saliva and the tongue shapes food into a ball called a bolus. The bolus goes down the oesophagus when you swallow.

2. Then, the stomach breaks down food. The stomach produces gastric juices that mix with the bolus and kill dangerous bacteria. 

3. After that, the liquid food passes into the small intestine. The liver produces bile and the pancreas produces pancreatic juice. These two liquids mix with the food in the small intestine. The nutrients pass through the walls of the small intestine and are absorbed into the blood.

4. Finally, the waste that our body doesn't need passes to the large intestine. Here, extra water is absorbed into the blood. The solid waste goes out of the body through the rectum and anus,
