ARCTIC REGIONS: Northern Lights landscape

What are the northern lights?

The northern lights are caused when electrons from solar winds hit the Earth’s atmosphere. They porduce the colours of light that we call aurora. The most common colours of the aurora are green, pink, purple, red, yellow and blue.

Where can the auroras be seen?
These lights can be seen most often around the North Pole and South Pole. This is because the electrons from solar winds are attracted to the poles by the magnetic field of the Earth.

Let's create our Northern Lights landscape! You will need:
- a black piece of paper
- some recycling paper
- colour chalks

Look at the postcards from Arctic places, how many places can you name?

Can you find them in the map?

Enjoy aurora in the South Pole and from the International Space Station!
Woooooow!
